Charity Auction help us support cancer research
Jan Porter

This auction is in memory of Jan Porter, known to anglers as one of sport's most popular figures. Jan passed away from cancer in 2016. He was widely known and respected after having been involved in fishing for many years and working to educate and promote the sport as far back as the mid 80s. He was described by those who knew him as "a true gentle giant, a loving guy with an easy come, easy go attitude."

The auction will finish at midnight on the 15th of August 2017.

Thank you all so much for bidding over the past few months. We are delighted to announce that YOU have managed to raise over £10,500 with the silent auction and the JustGiving page. A phenomenal sum of money for both the Aylesford Unit where Jan had all of his chemo and Cancer Research.

We wanted the money to actually buy something in memory of Jan so that it would be there for years to come. So after asking the Aylesford Unit what they need, they have said that they would like the money to go to refurbishing the phlebotomy room where all patients have to go to give blood before having chemo. Jan visited that room on numerous occasions. They would also like a new bed in there and would love to have a wall mural of a fishing scene so that the staff would know it as Jan's room. What a brilliant idea! The remainder of the money will go to Cancer Research.

We will be contacting all of the winners by email very soon with details of where to pay your winning bids. You will then be put in contact with you angling heroes to arrange your days' fishing.

Many thanks to all of those that have donated their time for this very worthwhile cause, to all of the companies that have put up prizes for the JustGiving site and photo competition and to Michael Mathews for putting the site together for us.
